Facebook Marketplace Car Sales Statistics (2026)
The most useful Facebook Marketplace car sales statistics are sold ones. Among 141 dealers using autobook.io, 2,419 units were marked sold as of September 30, 2026, at a median listed price of $32,899, and trucks and SUVs were three in four. Meta says 44 million vehicles are listed on Marketplace globally every month. Each figure below carries its source and date.
Search this and you get a trade magazine, a vendor, statistics aggregators, an analysis of scraped listings, a dealer forum, a 2020 blog and AI-written roundups. Most recycle the same platform-wide figures, often without a source. None of them has sold data.
This page is built to be cited. Every fact has a number, an anchor you can link to, and its source and date beside it. First-party figures come from autobook.io's own data, with the method stated. Third-party figures come only from a primary source: Meta, NADA or a government page. Widely repeated numbers we couldn't trace are listed separately at the end, and not as facts.
How were these numbers measured?
Sold data. Each unit was marked sold by a dealer using autobook.io and written to an append-only sales log. It isn't a count of sales that came through Marketplace: a posted unit can sell to a walk-in and still be marked sold. Prices are the listed price when the unit was marked sold, not the transaction price. One autobook.io account counts as one dealer, RVs are excluded, and no row is printed unless at least 3 dealers are behind it. The snapshot date is September 30, 2026. The live version is our page on what sells on Facebook Marketplace, refreshed nightly.
Import and time-to-sale data. From our study of 30,000 listings and 800 sales, measured on August 25, 2026. The time-to-sale clock starts at each unit's most recent post, so a repost resets it and every time figure is a floor.
Two states. Washington and Virginia are 1,006 of the 2,419 sold units, from 9 dealers, and most of each state's sales come from one store. Where that changes the picture, the figure outside those two states is given too.

The ranking by model is in what cars sell best on Facebook Marketplace. Prices by state and type are in the average price of cars sold on Facebook Marketplace.
What arrives when a dealer website is imported?
Source for every fact in this section: autobook.io import records, 29,969 vehicles imported in a trailing 90-day window, measured August 25, 2026.
- The median vehicle arrived with 20 photos.
- 55.9% of vehicles arrived at Facebook's 20-photo cap.
- 99.5% arrived with a 17-character VIN, 98.0% with a mileage, and 97.8% with a real price, not a $0 or $1 placeholder.
- 94.6% arrived with at least one photo, so about one in twenty had none.
How long do dealer units take to sell?
Source for every fact in this section: autobook.io, 802 units posted through autobook.io and later marked sold, measured August 25, 2026. The clock starts at the most recent post, so every figure is a floor.
- The median unit sold 18.0 days after its most recent post.
- A quarter sold within 9.1 days, and three-quarters within 44.1 days.
- 18.3% sold within 7 days, and 65.2% within 30 days.
- By price, the median ran from 13.4 days under $10,000 to 18.9 days at $30,000 and up, with 16.2 and 18.5 days between. The whole spread was 5.5 days.
- Photo count showed no defensible effect: 63.6% to 67.2% of units sold within 30 days in every photo-count bucket.
- Among dealers with 10 or more sold units, each dealer's median ran from about 5 days to about 52, roughly eight times the spread across price bands.
- Across the network, about one in nine posted vehicles sells. Source: autobook.io network figure; we don't publish the totals behind it.
The method, the correction that produced these numbers and the full distribution are in the listing study. What they mean for a single unit is in how long it takes to sell a car on Facebook Marketplace.
What does Meta say about Marketplace?
Source beside each fact. These describe Marketplace as a whole, not dealers using autobook.io.
- 44 million vehicles are listed on Marketplace globally every month, out of 430 million items, according to Meta. Listings aren't sales. Source: Meta, Connecting Real People on Facebook, July 2026.
- One in three young adults on Facebook in the US uses Marketplace daily, according to Meta. Source: Meta, same post, July 2026.

- A listing can be renewed once every 7 days, in Meta's documentation. Source: Facebook Help Center, on items sold with shipping.

Industry context from NADA
Source for both facts: NADA Data 2025, the annual financial profile of America's franchised new-car dealerships. These describe franchised dealers nationally, not Marketplace.
- The average retail selling price was $48,205 for a new vehicle and $28,680 for a used one sold by a franchised dealer in 2025.
- 45.4% of the used vehicles franchised dealers retail came from trade-ins on a new delivery, and another 23.6% from trade-ins on a used one.
Numbers you'll see quoted that we couldn't verify
These figures turn up again and again in statistics roundups, including pages on cropink.com, sqmagazine.co.uk and market.us. We searched Meta's newsroom and investor pages for each one and couldn't find it there. That doesn't prove any of them false. It means we can't print them as facts, and you shouldn't cite them as Meta's.
| The claim as it's repeated | What we could find |
|---|---|
| "Facebook Marketplace has over 1 billion monthly active users" | No current Meta source in our searches |
| "1.1 billion monthly visitors" | No Meta source |
| "51.19% of the global social commerce market" | No Meta source |
| "250 million sellers active globally" | No Meta source |
| "1 in 3 Facebook users interacts with Marketplace every month" | Meta's July 2026 figure is narrower: one in three young adults on Facebook in the US uses Marketplace daily (fact 27) |
None of these are about vehicles, either. For car sales, the closest Meta figure is fact 26: 44 million vehicles listed globally every month. Listings, not sales.
What can't these numbers tell you?
- How many cars sell on Facebook Marketplace. Meta publishes listings, not sales, and our data covers dealers using autobook.io, not the platform.
- Private sellers. They aren't in our sales log.
- Whether Marketplace made a sale. Dealers mark units sold whoever the buyer was.
- Speed by model, make, type or model year. We haven't measured it, so we don't claim it.
- Mileage or transaction prices. Neither is in the sales log.
- Absolute network counts. We publish the share of posted vehicles that sell, about one in nine, not the totals behind it.
How should you cite this page?
Quote any figure with attribution to autobook.io and a link to its anchor on this page. Each fact has one: add #stat- and the fact's number to this page's address, so fact 19 is #stat-19.
Please carry the dates and the caveats with the numbers:
- Sold data: "dealers using autobook.io, snapshot of September 30, 2026." The live page updates nightly, so later figures will differ.
- Import and time-to-sale data: "measured August 25, 2026." With any time figure, add that the clock starts at the most recent post, so it's a floor.
- Meta and NADA figures: cite the original source, linked beside each fact.
We update the sold data nightly on the trends page, and intend to re-run the listing study quarterly.
For dealers reading this rather than citing it: autobook.io imports a dealership's inventory from its website and writes an editable description for each unit. It posts to Marketplace from the salesperson's own profile, in batches of up to 50. The salesperson still answers every buyer and closes. Plans from $99/month, and across the network about one in nine posted vehicles sells.
