New to autobook.io? Here's How It Works

autobook.io puts your dealership's inventory on Facebook Marketplace for you, with AI-enhanced listings that buyers find and click. Four steps from your website to more sales.

Import Inventory

Enter your dealer website URL and your full inventory is pulled in automatically: VIN, price, mileage, options and photos. Nothing to type.

1

Generate Listings

AI writes a unique, search-friendly description for every car, puts the best photo first and strips dealer frames and watermarks.

2

Post Automatically

Post up to 50 cars per batch from your own Facebook profile, in your own browser, at a human pace that keeps your account healthy.

3

Sell More Units

More complete listings in front of more local buyers means more messages and more deals, and you see which listings sold.

4

The fastest way to a bigger check is more cars sold

Facebook Marketplace is where local car buyers shop. Buyers search it by keyword (year, make, model, trim, "4x4", "one owner", "third row"), so a bare listing with a price and three words only matches a few of those searches.

A complete listing with accurate specs, a detailed description and a clean lead photo matches far more of them, earns more clicks, and keeps surfacing to buyers. autobook.io builds every listing that way, for every car on the lot, so each unit gets more exposure without adding hours to your day.

How car salesman commission works

Most dealership pay plans are built from the same parts. Once you know them, your paycheck is simple arithmetic, and that arithmetic is exactly what the calculator above does.

Front-end gross and the pack

Front-end gross is the profit on the car itself: the selling price minus what the dealership has in it. Before your commission is figured, the store subtracts a pack, a fixed amount (commonly $500–$1,200) that covers reconditioning and overhead. You're paid your percentage, usually 20–30%, on what's left.

The mini

When a deal has little or no gross, you're paid a flat mini instead, commonly $100–$200. Salespeople who sell a lot of minis often have high unit counts and low paychecks, which is why the calculator shows how many of your deals paid the mini.

Back-end, spiffs and volume bonuses

  • Back-end: some plans pay a share of F&I profit (warranties, GAP, protection products). Many don't, so it defaults to 0%.
  • Spiffs: flat bonuses from the store or manufacturer for selling specific units, such as aged inventory or a model the store wants moved.
  • Volume bonuses: a flat bonus at 10, 12, 15 or 20 units. Some plans are retroactive: hitting the tier raises your percentage on every deal that month.

Split deals and the draw

A split deal (half deal) pays each salesperson half and counts as half a unit. A draw is an advance paid during the month. At month-end, commission above the draw is paid as a check, and a shortfall usually carries into next month.

Worked example

With the calculator's starting numbers (25% commission, $800 pack, $150 mini, a $500 bonus at 10 cars and a $2,000 draw), a salesperson who sells 10 cars plus 2 split deals at $1,800 average front gross gets:

  • 11 units: 10 full deals + 2 halves
  • $250 per full deal: ($1,800 − $800) × 25%, which beats the $150 mini
  • $2,750 front-end commission + $500 volume bonus = $3,250 gross pay, about $295 a car
  • $1,250 month-end check after the $2,000 draw

Four more cars would reach the 15-car tier: $1,000 more commission, and the bonus steps from $500 to $1,000. That's $1,500 more for the month, which is why unit count matters so much in car sales.

Common Questions About Car Sales Commission

How much does a car salesman make per car?

Most salespeople earn about $300–$350 in commission per car. That comes from roughly 20–30% of the front-end gross after the dealer's pack, with a minimum (a "mini") of about $100–$200 when the deal has little profit. Back-end, spiffs and volume bonuses raise the real number, which is why this calculator lets you enter your own plan.

How does car salesman commission work?

The dealership subtracts its pack from the deal's front-end gross profit, and you're paid your commission percentage on what's left. If that's less than the mini, you're paid the mini instead. Some plans add a share of back-end (F&I) profit, flat spiffs on certain cars, and a volume bonus once you pass a monthly unit count.

What is a pack in car sales?

A pack is a fixed dollar amount (commonly $500–$1,200) that the dealership adds to a car's cost before your commission is calculated. It covers things like reconditioning and lot costs. A $2,000 front gross with an $800 pack pays commission on $1,200.

What is a mini deal?

A mini is a flat minimum commission, often $100–$200, paid when your percentage of the gross would be lower, for example on a deal sold near cost. The calculator automatically pays whichever is higher and shows how many of your deals were minis.

What is a half deal or split deal?

When two salespeople work the same customer, they split the deal. Each gets half the commission and counts it as half a unit toward volume bonuses.

How does a draw against commission work?

A draw is an advance paid during the month. At month-end your commission is compared to the draw: if you earned more, you get the difference as a check. If you earned less, the shortfall usually carries forward and comes out of next month's commission (unless your draw is non-recoverable).

How can a car salesperson sell more cars per month?

More at-bats. Salespeople who keep every car on the lot listed on Facebook Marketplace with complete, detailed listings get more local buyers messaging them. autobook.io automates that, posting your dealership's inventory with AI-written listings, so you can see what a few extra cars a month does to your pay right in this calculator.
